Menieres disease is a disorder of the inner ear that can affect hearing and balance to a varying degree .It is charecterised by episodes of vertigo and tinnitus and progressive hearing loss, usually in one ear.
In Meniere's disease ,pressure and volume changes inside the inner ear fluid (endolymph) affect the inner ear function.
Risk factors include a family history ,preexisting autoimmune disorder,allergies,trauma to the head or ear, and,rarely syhilis.
.Periodic episodes of rotatory vertigo or dizziness.Patients have sudden attacks of vertigo lasting up to 24 hrs,usually with nausea and vomiting.
.Unilateral or bilateral tinnitus.
.A sensation of fullness of pressure in one or both ears.
.Tinnitus, may be constant or intermittent.
Menere's often begins with one symptom and gradually progresses,Accompanying symptoms include diaphoresis ,diarrhea, and gait unsteadiness. Before an episode ,most patients sense fullness or pressure in the affected ear.
According to Ayurveda ,here in menere's disease there is vitiation of vata pitta in kapha sthanam.So the treatments are based on to pacify vata pitta and to correct rasa kshaya.
To accomplish this Ayurvedic internal medicines are given .Along with that some extertnal therapies like Thalam,Padabyanga,karnapuranam,sirovasthi,Nasyam etc are given depending upon the severity of the disease in the patient.
