Netra tarpana is a highly effective Ayurvedic treatment for diseases related to eye and vision. It is called the therapy which nourishes the eyes. This is also described as eye care treatment and rejuvenating therapy.

Netra tarpana is contraindicated in too hot or too cold conditions, in physically and mentally exhausted patients and in severe cases of pain, inflammation and redness of eyes.
Procedure:
After proper examination and assessment of the patient the Ayurvedic practitioner decides the medicated ghee/ oil required for the procedure. The patient is made to lie down with proper neck support. The rings made out of black gram or white flour is fixed over the eye sockets. Then lukewarm medicated ghee/oil is gently poured into the rings , with the eyes closed, until both eyes are dipped in it. The patient is asked to open and close the eyes slowly and repeatedly. The medicine is placed in the eyes for a fixed period of time. It is then removed and the eyes are wiped with a cotton/cloth. Dhumapana is given to a patient at the end of netra tarpana. The duration and course of netra tarpana is decided by the Ayurvedic physician based on the severity of condition.
